Stoney Creek, Ontario Feb 15, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Women’s Institute Celebrates 125 years
WI Day is Feb 19th, 2022
Women across Canada come together
On February 19, 1897, the very first meeting of the Women’s Institute was held at Stoney Creek Ontario with 101 women in attendance. This week we will celebrate 125 years of WI across Canada and the world. Margaret Byl, current Canadian President will officiate at this momentous celebration via Zoom, where hundreds of women are expected to participate.
It all started with one woman, Adelaide Hunter Hoodless, of St. George Ontario. With the help of Janet and Erland Lee, they began the first Branch which has now spread across Canada and beyond.
Today - Women’s Institute of Canada is the national organization that provides a united voice for thousands of women all across Canada while advocating for national directives in health, poverty, food safety, education, environmental preservation, and community support.
The Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada, also known as WI Canada, will be celebrating, and paying tribute to those before us with each province sharing their stories…then and now. We, as the WI, take pride in representing women in Canada and are proud to be a member of the international organization the Associated Country Women of the World. We are excited to celebrate our milestone anniversary. Past Presidents, provincial presidents, and Board Representatives, along with other international guests of WI and the public are invited to our Zoom celebration.
