PAL CANADA’s Next Masterclass for Indigenous Youth involves food…

Toronto, Ontario Dec 8, 2022 (Issuewire.com)  - “We are inviting youth to our next free Masterclass, A DAY ON SET, this Saturday, December 10, at 1 PM ET (10 AM PT),” says Andre Szilvassy, Chair, PAL Canada, the organization behind the Scenes Masterclass Series for youth, especially Indigenous youth. All youth (ages 14-30) must sign-up to participate in the Masterclass on Zoom.

A DAY ON SET will provide participants with information about managing production, the role of a Production Manager, the role of a 1st Assistant Director (as well as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Assistant Directors), as well as Catering for film and television. The Masters are:

David Manion is a 1st Assistant Director (since 1992) and is currently on his 11th season of Murdoch Mysteries. His impressive list of credits also includes many award-winning series such as Schitt's Creek, Little Mosque On The Prairie, and Hudson & Rex.

Jim Mauro is a Producer and Production Manager with over 25 years of experience. He has recently completed work on the International Apple-TV Series, Foundation. His enviable list of credits ranges from situation comedies to high-action stunt-driven projects which also include Reacher and Schitts Creek.

David Mintz is a Caterer and hospitality expert who prides himself on “sweating the small stuff”. He’s been providing exceptional catering experiences for over 30 years, and his vast list of film credits includes Spotlight, A History of Violence, and Suits.

“We want to shed light on the many lucrative careers in the arts & entertainment industry,” says Adrian Luces, Executive Director of PAL Canada. “Field experts will enlighten the youth about some relatively unknown, but great jobs in Canadian arts and entertainment over the course of this Masterclass Series,” he adds.

Each Masterclass will have 3-4 Masters, sharing trade secrets and engaging with youth during a Q&A, all free of charge for Canadian youth 14-30. The Masterclass Series will host up to 12 Masterclasses through to the end of March 2023, where Masters will speak candidly on some of these topics: Masterclass Bundles for Good Jobs Behind The Scenes. 

Next up will be SETTING THE STAGE on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 1 PM ET (10 AM PT) where we will hear from a Production Designer, Art Director, Carpenter, or Set decorator. Each Masterclass will be announced individually as the Masters are confirmed. 

Funding for PAL Canada’s Behind The Scenes Masterclass Series is supported by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Project. It is officially supported by ArtsCan Circle, a reconciliation charity that connects creative artists with Indigenous youth in remote Canadian communities.
