Bengaluru, Karnataka Jun 30, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - Doctor’s day in India is celebrated every year on July 1st to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary Dr. B.C.Roy assumes more significance this year as the healthcare community continues its battle against the pandemic.
In the run-up to this year’s Doctors Day, ALTERDOCTOR, an online platform for doctors and healthcare workers to express themselves and their hobbies has released a video entitled A Doctor’s Prayer.
The piece which is based on the poem “Where the mind is without fear” by Rabindranath Tagore is probably a reflection of the thoughts of the entire medical fraternity across the country as it seeks to draw the attention of society towards the recent episodes of violence against Doctors.
Dr. Nitin Yashas, a medical oncology resident and co-founder of ALTERDOCTOR felt that the morale of the entire medical community was hit in recent times on hearing the news of violence against doctors across the country apart from being disappointed with the initial silence on social media from the rest of the society. Hence he felt that the need arose to write this piece which envisages the dreams and aspiration of a doctor being able to serve and discharge his duties proudly and without fear.
Dr. Arvind Kasthuri, Professor of community medicine and a theatre personality who has rendered the poem, expressed hope that if the public were to understand and were to be made aware of the efforts that a medical professional puts in, trust and faith in the healthcare community would be restored.
Young Medico Dr. Ranjit Abraham who has done the graphics and edited the video hopes that this prayer is heard by policymakers at both the central and state level and that strong law is formulated and also enforced appropriately against perpetrators of violence against healthcare workers and act as a deterrent in the future.
ALTERDOCTOR was founded by a group of doctors: Dr.Binu Joy, Dr. Jino Joy, Dr.Danny George, and Dr. Nitin Yashas with the purpose of providing Doctors an online platform called TREAT (alterdoctor.in) to express their reflections, experiences, opinions, and indulge in displaying a passion for their hobbies apart from medicine, be it art/photography/music/quiz/debates. The mandate is to provide content to the healthcare fraternity which can enrich, empower and entertain through their social media channels (Youtube: TREAT- the channel for doctors, Facebook/Instagram: Treat4doctors).
