Dubai, United Arab Emirates Feb 25, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Suns River Solar Desalination in (www.suns-river.com) in partnership with Merlin Green Homes/Dubai (sharad.bachani@merlin-me.com) is pleased to announce a revolution in food production in raw desert. More than 6 kilograms of food per square meter per month. UAE has set a target of additional domestic food production of 100,000 tons of food per year by 2021.
The installation is operating at the Sharjah Research Technology and innovation Park associated with AUS Enterprises, Sharjah, UAE. The location in raw desert is off grid and produces multiple harvests each year with productivity over 6 kilograms of food per square meter per month. The process feeds only saline water and solar energy using a combination of Suns River Solar Desalination, Aquastil Membrane Distillation and RO to produce all the water needed for food production. This vertical farming design features an air lock protected growth structure so the crops are both insect and predator free using no chemical deterrents. Food production is actually completely organic.
The site also features Merlin Green Magic housing and enclosures which are well adapted to the desert environment. As shown in the photo below, the site, which is actually a calcic horizon – some of the worst of desert soil types, has been converted from blank desert to a green oasis using the innovative combination of desalination technologies driven completely by solar energy.
