Born in the back seat of a car just outside Chicago in 1984, Velissaris was raised by a single mother working two jobs to support five children. Against significant odds, he attended Harvard University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Economics, and later completed a master’s degree in Operations Research at Columbia University’s School of Engineering. He also pursued formal theological study, including coursework at Harvard Divinity School.
After seventeen years on Wall Street — working in investment research, portfolio management, and serving as Chief Investment Officer — Velissaris encountered the most profound spiritual transformation of his life through suffering and incarceration.
