Agility CMS Launches MCP Server, Enables Customers to Enhance Content Operations with Leading AI Tools

The Agility CMS MCP Server lets developers and content teams manage content directly through leading AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT.

Toronto, Ontario May 4, 2026 (Issuewire.com)  - Agility CMS today announced the general availability of the Agility CMS MCP Server (mcp.agilitycms.com), a production implementation of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) open standard. The server enables AI assistants to interact directly with Agility CMS via 19 tools that cover the full content management lifecycle. It is compatible with any MCP-compliant AI client, including Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, and ChatGPT.

MCP is an open standard created by Anthropic that connects AI tools to external systems through a standardized protocol. With the Agility CMS MCP Server, any AI assistant a developer or content team already uses can access the full CMS: content models, content items, sitemaps, pages, and media assets.

Faster Publishing, Faster Time to Market

The server has been in continuous production use since its public beta launch in September 2025. Agility's own website, its demo site, and CTO Joel Varty's personal site are all actively built and maintained through this workflow.

Blog post creation has dropped from 30 to 45 minutes down to under just five minutes.

Component development time has fallen from 2 to 6 hours down to 2 to 5 minutes. The demo site GitHub repository lists Claude as a code contributor alongside the human developer, with 158 commits.

The MCP server runs two distinct workflows on the same underlying infrastructure. Developers connect their AI coding assistant to the live CMS during development. The agent queries real content model schemas, inspects field types and relationships, and uses that live context to generate structurally correct components from the start. Content teams use pre-configured AI skills tuned to specific content models, so a marketer can describe what they want in plain language and the AI handles field mapping, image upload, slug generation, and content creation, returning a preview URL for review before publishing.

Leading AI Assistants Now Work Inside Agility CMS

"Most CMS vendors are asking whether AI can write better content," said Jon Voigt, Chief Executive Officer at Agility CMS. “A more interesting question is whether your AI assistant can actually understand your content architecture and do real work inside it. That is what the MCP server is built for. We have been running it in production for over six months and it has changed how our own team operates."

"The most valuable content operations happen outside the CMS,” explained Joel Varty, Chief Technology Officer at Agility CMS. “Marketers live in documents and AI assistants. Developers live in their IDE. AI is most powerful where the work already happens. Our MCP server helps users structure content and scaffold components from the tools they’re already using,” Varty said.

As a member of the MACH Alliance, Agility CMS’s MCP server aligns with the Alliance's Agent Ecosystem initiative, which has made agentic AI its central focus for 2026 and is building an MCP Registry of compliant servers across the enterprise technology ecosystem. Because MCP is an open standard, the Agility MCP server can participate in multi-agent workflows alongside MCP servers from other MACH ecosystem vendors, including PIM, CDP, and commerce platforms.

The Agility CMS MCP Server is available now. Documentation, a full tool catalog, and setup instructions are at mcp.agilitycms.com.
