American Author Releases New Book Documenting Elder Abuse After Personal Ordeal

American author Andrew Lawrence, the writer of 20 self-help books, has released a powerful new work at age 80 following a deeply personal and traumatic experience with elder abuse.

Los Angeles, California Jun 11, 2026 (Issuewire.com)  - After being hospitalized for two weeks due to sepsis, author Andrew Lawrence spent an additional two months in a transitional nursing care facility before returning home. During that time, while bedridden, he was the victim of elder abuse, including bedsores, bruising, malnutrition, and neglect.

Despite his condition, Lawrence kept his laptop with him and maintained a detailed digital journal throughout his stay. It’s called the Elderly Diary.

“It’s my personal story—an actual digital diary; a rare and important documented nonfiction text-and-photo account of institutional elder abuse in America,” said Lawrence. “I am using The Elderly Diary to bring attention to elder abuse in today’s society. This is a huge issue. It’s an epidemic.”

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 320 million people worldwide could suffer from elder abuse by 2050.

Lawrence points to a growing at-risk population in the United States, noting that more than 60 million Americans over the age of 65 may be vulnerable to abuse in transitional care facilities, nursing homes, or even within their own homes under caregiver supervision.

The resulting book, The Elderly Diary, spans 150 pages and includes 50 photographs taken by the author, documenting his abuse firsthand.

The Elderly Diary is available as a paperback on Amazon and as a digital download through the official website.
