The team at RST Solutions has been working with mine site operators to help address the rising challenges and risks from the ever-increasing frequency and magnitude of rainfall extremes, and with the next few months expected to be much wetter than in recent years, mitigation measures are being prioritised to keep operations running as usual.
High-performance haul road dust suppressants developed by leading fine particle specialist Reynolds Soil Technologies (RST Solutions) are being found to improve the structural quality of roads over time, helping to keep roads open and safe for heavy vehicle traffic.
Advanced technologies like Avengers which are used primarily for suppressing dust, are adding value by continuing to improve road structure over time and after rain.
“Instead of deteriorating over time or washing away, our dust suppressants work themselves down through the surface layers when it rains and this actually improves the road’s quality,” says RST Solutions Operations and Technical Director David Handel.

“The use of water carts will also decrease by up to 50% and haul road grading requirements can drop as much as 30%.
“Australian mines are gearing up for a wet season that could see quite a bit of flooding. We are assisting them to prepare for what may be a very wet summer.”

“Our haul road dust suppressants actually accelerate a haul road’s recovery time after rain events and work to improve running surfaces that require less maintenance.”
