Award winning consultants demonstrate teh benefits of IoT

Telecoms and smart city advisors Intelligens Consulting were commissioned to undertake research on teh benefits of IoT and have disseminated the results of that research.

Alexandria, Dunbartonshire Nov 19, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - Intelligens Consulting was commissioned by CENSIS, North, and R3-IoT to undertake groundbreaking research to help accelerate the rollout and adoption of IoT networks and platforms.

This study found a plethora of recommendations to accelerate the rollout and adoption of IoT solutions. Crucially, the study identified the commercial business case and RoI achievable by investing in IoT as well as a number of primary and secondary benefits.

The study also identified methods local authorities can use to reduce their exposure to risk, to skill up and manage change while identifying procurement strategies to source private partners to deliver IoT solutions.

Intelligens Consulting Founder and Consulting Director Iqbal Singh Bedi explains, "The research was fascinating and unearthed some really interesting findings that can benefit local authorities across the UK".

IoT is a collection of sensors and technologies that gather data to enable decision-makers in organisations to make smarter decisions and deliver better outcomes.

The research found that IOT can help decision-makers, policymakers to make smarter choices. In essence, data collected by sensors is transported over a network for processing and presented to decision-makers to take appropriate action, as required.

"Most importantly", says Bedi, "Investing in IoT can free up valuable local authority resources allowing officers to focus on higher-value tasks, driving productivity benefits and cost savings"

These benefits are particularly important at a time when government spending is being scrutinised.

For example, undertaking visual inspections of dampness within social housing premises or, undertaking inspections of faulty streetlights can be automated using IoT.

Telecoms and smart city expert Bedi goes on to say that, "we found that IoT can achieve operational benefits and socio-economic outcomes to society and places. For example, deploying sensors in social housing enabled households at risk of fuel poverty to be detected allowing early interventions possible."

It is important that, when embarking upon IoT projects, local authorities are aware of the outcomes they are looking to achieve so that they can be measured and quantified to determine if the IoT project is successful

Intelligens Consulting's team of technology, strategy, economic, procurement, and finance experts can help local authorities to deliver their smart and connected place ambitions. In our next article, we will explain how to make a financial business case stack up for IoT and how to determine the IoT return on investment.
