Andros Town, Andros Oct 24, 2018 (Issuewire.com) - Andros, Bahamas. Dr. Leon Higgs’s debut book, Barefoot to Boardroom: The Intriguing Life Story of a Poor Country Lad Turned College President, is a touching narration of a life riddled by poverty and yet overcome by sheer determination. The author has come a long way from his early childhood memories of looking up dreaming and walking barefoot on the beachfront of South Andros. His debut memoir comes in waves of hope and gratitude in the face of hardships. He presents a thought-provoking challenge to his fellow Bahamians and his avid readers from being complacent—not to be content with living the same way of life as their parents—and empowers them to always go big on their dreams.
Coming from a tightly knit family that spends days and nights by the sea together and lives off a fishing income, Dr. Higgs never thought he would one day choose to trade off casting nets for business suits. His deeply seated Bahamian roots come to the fore in times of difficulties, relying on his intuition guided by faith, whether in the classroom or at a boardroom. His fierce willingness to rise above and to not let present circumstance get in the way of his goals is truly inspiring.
With his comprehensive experience in the educational sector for more than 30 years, Dr. Higgs’ ideologies and belief systems are reflected on the pages of his book combining wit, practicality, and allure in the mix. His work will be one of the inspirational books that readers will find displayed in the upcoming Texas Book Festival from October 27 to 28, 2018 and on the Miami Book Fair from November 11 to 18, 2018.
