The Band of Gypsys - Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles, and Billy Cox were one of the most influential groups in music. No group had ever mixed soul, R&B and rock to the extent, where no one genre was dominant over the other. Their only self-titled LP went Double Platinum and was a hit with Pop/Rock and R&B fans. Many influential musicians, such as George Clinton/P-Funk, Ernie Isley, Prince, and Lenny Kravitz, have cited the BOG’s as a major influence and inspiration.
William “Billy” Cox, the last surviving member of the group, had this to say:
“I have been told that the BOG’s introduced many in the R&B listening audience to Jimi Hendrix. In 2016, Jimi was inducted and this year, Buddy and I complete the trio.”
The 2019 R&B HOF class is headlined by legendary icons Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. The full list of inductees can be found on the official website: https://www.rbhalloffame.com/
