The garage door was part of a stunning renovation project to the coach house which brought 21st-century functionality and improved access and security.
The project was managed by RDB Architecture & Interiors who had strict criteria for any work undertaken. This was due to the house’s listed status and the fact that surrounding properties up and down the cobbled street are beautiful examples of the 19th-century coach house tradition.
Hence, any attempt to dramatically alter the external appearance of the doors would be detrimental to the elegant appeal of this upmarket neighborhood and would be flatly refused by council planners.
Bespoke Garage Door Requirements
RDB Architecture & Interiors contacted Rundum Meir, who custom make every one of their garage doors according to their client’s project requirements.
The specification brief was to retain the existing look of the swing-open garage door but to integrate an up and over automated functionality. This would improve access to the garage which is located on one of the capital’s most desirable residential streets close to Eaton Square Gardens.
Rundum Meir designed a stunning timber engineered garage door. It was finished in traditional black and complete with the original heavy cast iron Charles Collinge hinges. Importantly, it was sympathetic to the local architecture and compliant with the house’s listed status.
The garage door was manufactured by Rundum Meir’s skilled craftsmen at its Germany factory. Once manufactured, the garage door was weighed to enable the design of the correct spring counterbalance system and deliver many years of reliable operation. They also designed and built the overhead mechanism to comfortably accommodate the door’s significant weight.
