Black & Ivy League Launches with Tremendous Support

Vero Beach, Florida Jan 7, 2023 (Issuewire.com)  - A new non-profit organization highlighting the top leaders and professionals from the elite 107 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) has launched with an outpour of support from current students and alumni.

Founders, Trenice J. Brinkley, and Lynnecia S. Eley started the project in 2020 by asking, “what does “black and ivy league” mean to you”? The responses all referred to black alumni of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, and those alike. The two wondered why don’t in the same breath think of Hampton, Howard, Spelman, Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T, or Morehouse.

The term “Ivy League” refers to eight private research universities in the Northeastern United States as a group of long-established schools with connotations of high academic excellence, promising career futures, and social elitism. Therefore, the term “Black and Ivy League” is a thing and HBCUs should be recognized on a larger scale.

Black & Ivy League (BIL) is a distinguished network of change-makers and trailblazers impacting the landscape of careers and entrepreneurship. The mission of the Black & Ivy League organization is to create awareness and honor the elite alumni from HBCUs.
