BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center Announces 40th Anniversary Season 

BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, the longest operating performance venue in Lower Manhattan, announces 2023 - 2024 programming. The year will feature the return of the world-renowned Tango Legends led by Pablo Sosa and Mariela Maldonado, in addition to family favorites such as the Peking Acrobats, Cirque-tacular and TheaterWorksUSA, Tony nominee and Emmy Award-winning actress/singer Liz Callaway, the award-winning Julieta Eugenio Trio, Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre, and more.

Tango Legends
Saturday, October 21 at 8PM & Sunday, October 22 at 2PM, 2023; $90 - $55
Direct From Buenos Aires, Argentina, The Best Tango Dancers In The World
This spectacular event includes the fiery magic of tango, dazzling world-class dancers and a marvelous vocalist. “Pablo Sosa and Mariela Maldonado added complicated lifts to their numbers and daring speed, their legs cutting and dividing the air like machetes.” - The New York Times. *Post-show demonstration following the Sunday 2PM performance with Pablo & Mariela.

Liz Callaway: Broadway & Beyond
Saturday, February 24 at 7:30PM; $55, $50
Liz made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, received a Tony award nomination for her role in Baby, and received accolades for her performance as Grizelda in the cult classic Cats. Her song “Journey to the Past” from the animated film Anastasia, was nominated for an Academy Award and Liz is also the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin and the King of Thieves and The Return Of Jafar.

Cirque-Tacular and DCA Productions present “Art of Circus”

The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System

When the class gets lost on the way to the planetarium, Ms. Frizzle saves the day by blasting into outer space for an epic interplanetary field trip! But when rivalries both old and new threaten to tear the students apart, our young heroes must learn to pull together or risk getting forever lost in the solar system. Hop on the Magic School Bus for a ride in this new musical adaptation based on the original book series published by Scholastic.

Peking Acrobats

The Peking Acrobats perform daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs and display their technical prowess at such arts as trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting, and gymnastics. In the words
of Clive Davis of the New York Post, “The Peking Acrobats [are] pushing the envelope of human possibility,” combining agility and grace in remarkable feats of “pure artistry.”

Ms. Greer's classroom includes three inquisitive out-of-the-box thinkers. Rosie Revere has big dreams. Iggy Peck has a relentless passion for architecture. And Ada Twist's curiosity can drive her teacher crazy. A fun new musical based on the books Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; and Ada Twist Scientist by Andrea Beaty, which spotlights the stem curriculum (focusing on science, technology, engineering and math). Ages 5+

Jazz in Progress - The Next Faces of Jazz
2022 DCJazzPrix International Band Competition 1st Place Winner: Julieta Eugenio Trio
Friday, December 15 at 7:30PM; $40
Julieta Eugenio is an Argentinian saxophonist based in New York city. As she developed as a musician, she embedded herself into the Argentinian jazz scene and performed in renowned jazz venues in Buenos Aires alongside master musicians. After moving to New York City in 2013, she completed her Masters degree from Queens College in 2015, and has since become a part of the city’s vibrant music scene. In 2022, Julieta released her debut album Jump, the Julieta Eugenia Trio snagged the 1st place prize in the 2022 DCJazzPrix, and she was nominated for Best New Artist by the Jazz Music Awards!

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre Presents Habit Formed
Friday, March 1st at 7:30PM and Saturday March 2 at 7:30PM, 2024; $40
For the 24th Anniversary Performance Season, Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre will be premiering an evening-length work entitled Habit Formed. Habit Formed explores how habits are created and broken in our lives. Habit Formed will include Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre’s company of 10 dancers, costume design by Anna-Alisa Belous, scenic design by Anna-Alisa Belous and Rob Dutiel, Lighting Design by Dan Ozminkowski, and Sound Design by Joel Wilhelmi. Selwyn is “a master at illustrating the symbiosis of sound and movement, the romance of motion and emotion...” raves Inside NY. This residency is sponsored by the CUNY Dance Initiative.
