Los Angeles, California Nov 1, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - Carnegie Hall to salute the nation's veterans with musical production titled, “The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE-Day” on November 10, 2021, at 8:00 P.M. EST. The event will include honoring the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion which deployed during World War II and consisted of all Black Military Women; 855 to be exact.
Several members of the National Association of Black Military Women will be in attendance.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Patricia Jackson-Kelley is the National President of the National Association of Black Military Women and she's also flying into New York from California for the historic event which will honor the 6888th. “I’m so proud of them, first of all, being a woman. I stand on their shoulders," she adds.
"When you look around, there’s a lot of things that Afro-Americans have done that have been erased from history or not recorded for the mere fact that they’re Black,” she says.
The NABMW is seeking more Co-Sponsors for H.R. 1012 to honor the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion with a Congressional Gold Medal. The film Six Triple Eight has been screened by multiple organizations to raise awareness.
By war’s end, the SixTripleEight had cleared over 17 million pieces of backlogged mail ensuring the troops stayed in touch with their loved ones back home. The last of the women returned home in March 1946. They were never fully recognized.
