Charity Event - Not All Heroes Wear Capes

London, United Kingdom Oct 26, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - A Charity Matchday Experience to Acknowledge The Rise of Children’s Mental Health Issues as a Result of the Pandemic

On Saturday, 23rd October 2021, Connect Global Group hosted their inaugural charity event ‘Not All Heroes Wear Capes”, during the Chelsea Vs Norwich City game at their executive box in Stamford Bridge.

Designed to acknowledge the impact of the pandemic on children's mental health and to give thanks to the NHS for their hard work during the last two years, the idea was simple. Bring together deserving (KS2) children from across London, together with their parents and some VIP guests – all of whom are actively promoting/working with Children and the NHS - for a thrilling matchday experience.

On the day Connect Global Group was joined by special guests, Dr. Emeka Okorocha, Janette Steel, and Martin Roberts, who have all dedicated their lives to helping the vulnerable.

To ensure four deserving children were selected in an unbiased manner, Connect Global Group hosted a drawing contest in collaboration with Willow Bank Primary School and Ravenor Primary School. The winners of the contest, Kayleigh (age 11, Willow Bank), Aleemah (age 10, Willow Bank), Abisana (age 10, Ravenor), and Navneet (age 7, Ravenor), were invited to watch the exciting football match alongside their parent/guardian. On the day, the children also received a signed copy of Martin Robert’s book SADSVILLE, and a Chelsea FC t-shirt.

A Life Dedicated to Children

Janette Steel, Head Teacher of Chelsea Community Hospital School, has more than 20 years of experience working as a teacher, and has published many papers over the years covering children’s mental health, such as the ‘Identification of Girls in Emotional Behaviour Difficulties’ and ‘Inpatient Units for Children with mental health problems.

At the matchday event, Janette remarked how difficult it was for the children at the hospital to process what was going on during the pandemic. Naturally, there were many questions about why everyone was in masks or why loved ones, including parents and grandparents, couldn’t visit. In her passionate talk before brunch, she went on to explain how despite all the pain and chaos that ensued by pandemic, the Chelsea Community Hospital School were gifted violins for every child via the Andrew Lloyd Webber programme and as such were able to use music as a therapy for the children.

A Doctor Influencing Young People

A&E doctor Emeka Okorocha is an example of how social media can be used for the greater good. Dr. Emeka uses Instagram, TikTok, and Youtube to raise awareness about COVID19 and how to stay safe during the pandemic.

In an interview conducted with Dr. Emeka, he shared how important it is to protect the mental health of children and to be vigilant in identifying issues at an early stage.

Giving Support to Children

TV Presenter and advocate for vulnerable children, Martin Roberts uses his talent, creativity, and experience to give life to the characters in his books. SADSVILLE, written by him, helps address the need for ongoing awareness of charities like Childline amongst children and young people.

Childline is an option for any child under 19 in the UK to call and speak about their mental situation or difficulty. Children can call Childline anonymously and speak to therapists and trained professionals who can aid them in getting the help they need.
