New York City, New York Apr 24, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - CHEW GUM, an adult animated musical series created by Shane Curry, will launch on May 1st on Kickstarter. The series follows two best friends who start a band with grand delusions. The music they hear in their heads never translates to their hands.
CHEW GUM has been in development for years, and early incarnations of the characters have garnered over 28 million views on TikTok. The series draws influences from shows like Sifl and Olly, Home Movies, Flight of the Conchords, Venture Bros, and Moral Orel.
“CHEW GUM is a musical comedy that ratchets you up through the euphoric musical highs of ‘Following Your Dreams,’ then drops you straight down into the head-decapitating summit of accepting reality,” said Curry. “It’s a show about living in a fantasy world in denial about reality and trying to bridge the two and failing to do so.”
The series will consist of 10-20 short episodes (ranging from 0:45 to 2:00 in length) and will contain 1-3 micro songs. The theme song can be heard here:
Curry is a songwriter-turned-professional animator. He was an animator (Timing Director) on all 5 seasons of She-Ra and The Princesses of Power, he’s worked on multiple primetime animated shows for FOX and has been an animator on American Dad! for over half a decade, most recently serving as the Timing Supervisor for the series.
The Kickstarter campaign will aim to crowdfund the first season and increase the speed with which the episodes will arrive (and the quantity), and cultivate a fan community for fans to share in the project.
