Shanghai, China Jul 2, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - On 24 June, China Unicom successfully hosted its Global Partner Meeting in Shanghai under the theme “Innovate · Far-Reaching.” Mr. Miao Shouye, Senior Vice President of China Unicom Group, and Mr. John Hoffman, CEO & Director of GSMA Ltd, attended the conference and delivered opening speeches.
Mr. Miao Shouye stated that China Unicom will adhere to the development principle of “Preserve and Innovate, Steady and Far-reaching” and focus on the four core tracks of “connectivity” “computing power” “service” and “security” The company is accelerating its transformation from a telco to a techco company, taking global development as a new growth driver, guided by product innovation and driven by open collaboration, to continuously enhance its global operational excellence. Centered around the conference theme, he put forward four initiatives:
First, jointly build intelligent networks to consolidate the foundation of connectivity. Deepen the joint construction and sharing of submarine cables, crossborder land cables, and overseas edge nodes; accelerate the building of a global intelligent data network, the IoT, and satellite Internet; to create an integrated spaceairgroundsea interconnected network.
Second, co-create a computing power ecosystem to explore new blueocean growth. Create a crossborder cloudbased computing power product matrix, support twoway crossborder token flows for computing power, and seize new opportunities in tokenbased business operations.
Third, collaborate with AI services to enhance customer experience. Promote deep integration of digital and intelligent technologies into industries and applicable scenarios, and develop more smart products and digital transformation solutions that meet the needs of international customers.
Fourth, jointly build a security system to anchor a line of defense for digital development. Share technologies and operation platforms for cyber security, information security, and operational security; promote the secure and orderly flow of crossboundary data; deepen joint prevention and control against crossborder telecom fraud; and safeguard the steady and sustained development of the global digital economy.
Mr. John Hoffman noted that amid the intelligent era, innovation is advancing in a systematic manner, and that three cornerstones are indispensable: strong network infrastructure, embedded artificial intelligence, and close partnerships. He fully commended China Unicom’s active role and successful practices in promoting 5G and 5GA to support specific vertical applications, scaling AI deployment, and promoting collaboration on the Open Gateway initiative. He stated that the GSMA will continue to work closely with China Unicom focusing on the core tracks of “connectivity” “computing power” “services” and “security” to turn technological innovation into real economy value, driving the synchronized upgrade of the industry.
During the keynote speech session, Mr. Dan Ouchterlony, Executive Vice President of Telenor and Head of Telenor Amp; Professor Guo Minyi from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Ms. Anna Yip, CEO of Singtel International Digital Services; Mr. Fan Ji’an, Chief Big Data Scientist of China Unicom; and Mr. Zhang Ranmao, Chairman and General Manager of China Unicom Smart Connection Technology Company, delivered speeches on topics including collaboration in smart connectivity to build a trusted digital ecosystem for a connected world, AI training and inference efficiency driving global token expansion, creating new industry value through AI and partnerships, 5G+AI integration and enablement, and the global expansion of China’s automotive industry. They conducted indepth exchanges on how digital and intelligent technologies can empower the digital transformation and upgrading of thousands of industries across the globe.
During the conference, China Unicom launched its "UniCom SAIL" product matrix. The matrix seamlessly integrated global connectivity, scalable AI computing, localized autonomous workflows, and carrier-grade security, offering infrastructure-and-AI-converged innovations that ready for the international market to foster global ecosystem collaboration. The conference also presented Unicom Global Partner Awards, including “Best Global Connectivity Partner Award,” “Best International Roaming and IoT Partner Award,” “Best AI and Innovation Partner Award,” “Best Digital Application Partner Award,” and “Best Security Solution Partner Award.”
