Los Angeles, California Jun 14, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Hot on the heels of the release of his female western “Vengeance Turns: Volume One” on July 25, 2023 (https://randommedia.com/index.php/film/vengeance-turns-volume-one-7-25-2023/), writer/director Robert Christopher Smith plans to shoot an entire season of his first episodic series “Background And” before the release of “Vengeance Turns: Volume Two” in November. Smith spent the first few months of 2023 creating and developing the new series with actor/comedian Rob Banks from his acting class. The two have written a complete 4-episode first season and outlined four longer seasons of 6-10 episodes each should there be a demand.
“Background And!” is a docu-style workplace comedy that centers around Smith as “Davy” David Thomas Jones as he documents his rise from background actor to principal actor on a show within their show called “Burnout”. As he shoots his documentary, he meets a group of background actors led by co-creator Banks who also plays a character named David Thomas Jones but who goes by “Tom Blayze” for union-related reasons.
The two characters bond over their shared problems and antics during a single day on the set of a lower budget streaming show called “Burnout”. Part of the hook for their show is that the show within the show will feature a recognizable named actor in the role of “Dirty Dick Callahan” who is the titular character.
As fans of shows like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, “The Office”, and other workplace or docustyle comedies, both Smith and Banks feel their show is the right story at the right time, and its lean production values will appeal to studios, networks and streamers.
