“Considered the best” CDC/NIOSH-approved N95 masks ready for distribution to U.S. health systems, hospitals for domestically-made PPE

Domestic PPE Group, LLC is a Colorado Springs-based distributor in the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) space, brought into existence to solve two major challenges for access: 1) the preference among physicians and other front lines clinical staff who would like FDA-certified, domestically manufactured N95 masks versus the overseas solutions many of the healthcare supply distributors rely on, and 2) to find solutions that are based in the United States, headed by top engineers and manufacturers who have a fixed eye on standards of excellence in safety, effectiveness, and comfort.

Company co-founders, John Lerohl, head of National Sales and Distribution, and Dirk R. Hobbs, head of National Marketing & Partnerships for Domestic PPE, recently signed on with Protective Health Gear (PHG) out of Paterson, New Jersey, and Premier Guard, USA (PGA) from Jackson, Mississippi for the manufacturing of N95 and Level three, 3-ply masks respectively. These strategic alliances will help both companies create a long-term relationship in the healthcare market outside of their current, locally-focused distribution channels.

Informing these manufacturing relationships, it was essential to find who is meeting the challenge of U.S.-based manufacturing solutions at the highest quality.

“Domestic PPE’s manufacturing expert, 30-year veteran, Greg Lee, scoured the national landscape and found PHG and PGA to have the highest clinical and production standards, as required by the FDA and CDC, as well as, the most reliable manufacturing configuration capable of meeting national demand,” Hobbs stated.

“Each of our partners must have the capability to elevate the PPE industry to higher safety standards and leave behind the commodity mindset. Our front-line medical personnel is far too valuable to just take a product from where ever it happens to be available at the time. In addition to meeting health and safety standards from NIOSH and the CDC’s National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL), each company needed to be in it for the right reasons,” Lee said.  “Our N95 Model 5160s are already in use with health systems in New Jersey, where they’ve been considered the best N95 they’ve used.”

Both the Domestic PPE Groups’ hand-picked manufacturers, PHG and PGA are U.S.-based manufacturers who have made national news for their quality and the lengths each has gone to, to create a sustainable domestic solution.  Each is price-competitive with overseas – specifically, Asia-Pacific-based solutions, as well, a product that has met, and in many cases, exceed the FDA and CDC’s requirements for certification.

“Having the materials and manufacturing stateside and with alternate globally sourced suppliers, we can eliminate our sole reliance on Asia-Pacific suppliers who continually struggle to keep up with global demand, whose safety standards are often unverified, and who at any time, could stall or halt distribution to the United States,” said Hobbs. “We don’t want our front line healthcare professionals to be at the mercy of political-trade issues that could prevent the timely distribution of imperative PPE, and subsequently compromise their well-being, and having to use the same masks for days on end.”

While cases and the spread of COV19 appear to be slowing down, the need will remain for those providing care and in the surgical suites. This ongoing access to N95s and 3-ply masks from Domestic PPE Group will help health systems across the U.S. develop a reliable source for the preferred, in-demand PPE, and even develop some on-hand inventory in their supply chains when demand ramps up again-whether a subsequent up-tick of COV19, or for the annual influenza season.

Lerohl understands the balance that must be maintained by supply chain offices. “Granted, keeping costs in line by using an “as-needed” order approach is useful in the best of times if the geopolitical climate has taught us anything, it is that can change in an instant putting the hospital supply-chain office in a very tight situation. Rather, Domestic PPE Group will help hospitals and health systems create an on-hand inventory for the rainy days ahead without busting budgets,” he said.

“This is our number one preoccupation: Putting the best possible protective equipment in the hands of one of our most valuable national assets: our front-line medical staff. Both my daughter and son-in-law are physicians on the front lines here in Colorado, it’s not only our mission as a company in general, but it’s personal for me. We need to keep our healers safe, so they can continue to provide focused, excellence in healthcare and worry less about their own health risks. Why would we take any shortcuts?”

There are other industries that have a similar need for top-flight PPE. Among them are aviation, pharmaceuticals, and the Department of Defense, for starters. “We can and will serve these industries upon request.  But our initial focus will be on healthcare systems and hospitals, and to help regenerate our national stockpile for the next Coronavirus,” Lerohl concluded.
