New York City, New York Nov 4, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Paul L. Centeno’s novel, “Coup de Grâce” (ISBN 978-1644565063) is a daring escapade that triumphantly celebrates the many pulpy facets of the genre. The concept itself flips traditional tropes, blending science fiction and fantasy in nuanced ways.
Clockwork cities. Steam-powered airships. Magic. Time travel. An alchemical power is capable of incredible power. Coup de Grâce has all of this and more. It is from the start a relentless ride, as richly populated with wonders as any Golden Age novel.
Set in a bleak world on the edge of extinction, it is an emotionally resonant chronicle filled with alchemy, science, and the desire to save mankind from itself. This novel stretches the boundaries of imagination as Kaimo de Morté and his companions face the greatest evil of their age. Life and death are in balance. Failure means the end of everything.
Civilization has changed. Gone are the old gods. Nature withers and dies beneath the growing bane of machines and industry. Desperate to prevent their world from dying, citizens turn to science and sprawling cities of steam ruled by the Imperium.
Kaimo de Morté has never known another life. He is an optometrist by trade but too poor to open an optical emporium. Forced to work in the mines, the lens-maker has no idea how his life is about to change. A chance encounter with insurgents thrusts him into a battle for the very future of mankind—one he is ill-prepared to fight. Kaimo uncovers hidden truths, forms alliances stretching to the highest halls of power, and becomes the catalyst for either saving his world or watching it collapse.
“Coup de Grâce” is available at Barnes & Noble and other channels.
