New York City, New York Jul 8, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Even as states reopen, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused millions to find themselves isolated from their families, friends, coworkers, and others they would encounter on a day to day basis. As loneliness becomes its own pandemic, COVID Story Project has stepped in to bridge the connection gap that has been missing for so many.
COVID Story Project is a free website fostering community through cathartic storytelling, where regular people can have their pandemic experiences captured through 2-4 minute audio recordings and listen to the experiences of others. COVID Story project is a platform created by Memria.org, a web-based audio storytelling platform. This is the first consumer-facing from MEMRIA, which usually works with clients like NGO's, alumni associations, educators, and libraries to utilize the audio recording software.
MEMRIA CEO, Louis Bickford shared why they decided to take on this project. "Every day we work with the power of personal stories and the human voice, and we realized that we could make a small contribution during the pandemic," said Bickford.
Each community across the US has faced COVID-19 in such different ways, and highlighting the reality of these experiences is crucial as we all face isolation from others. On the site, individuals can share a moment that's made them hopeful, a personal musing about the pandemic, how their life has changed, or anything else they would like to share. The platform already has a wide collection of experiences from people across the US as well as some submissions from Canada and the UK.
The goal of the COVID Story Project is to collect stories from everyday people that show the diversity of human experience during COVID-19. The submission portal is available here and will remain open until the COVID crisis is under control and normal life is able to resume. By not limiting submissions to experienced storytellers, there's a true authenticity in the moments shared. COVID Story Project serves as a digital archive of first-hand accounts and the voices of these individuals can now live on for generations to come.
