New York City, New York Nov 2, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - Fellowship-trained in spine surgery, Dr. Dixon provides comprehensive spine care at Avera Orthopedics in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He strives to find pain relief for lumbar-area musculoskeletal conditions.
Wanting patients to feel comfortable and in control of their health care, he encourages them to be active participants in their health by asking questions and seeking out appropriate answers. “It’s important that, as a physician, I take the time to listen to their concerns and explain their condition and treatment in terms that aren’t complicated,” expressed Dr. Dixon.
Growing up, he felt drawn to the medical field after seeing the faithful care from physicians and nurses toward his family members. As he was pursuing his medical degree, he decided to specialize in orthopedics after caring for patients in the emergency department and operating room.
Graduating with his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Dixon completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners/Michigan State University and his fellowship in spine surgery at OrthoCarolina/University of North Carolina Spine Center.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
In good standing with a number of professional organizations, he is a proud member of the AO Spine Surgery North America, the North American Spine Society, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
In his free time, Dr. Dixon enjoys spending time with family, coaching/attending his children's sports, hunting, fishing, tubing/water skiing, wakeboarding, playing slow pitch softball, golfing, and snowmobiling.
