Debanjali Nag on Breaking Stereotypes with her Choice of Weapon: a Pen

Bengaluru, Karnataka Aug 26, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - Where could Debanjali find more emotions to travel with but writing? It gave her the dais to express herself and pour her heart out in the form of poetry and novellas.

The Embracing Mother, a novella earned her recognition globally and gave many a perspective of viewing motherhood on the contrary. A woman who failed to conceive and never lost hope of enjoying motherhood had to surrender her precious wealth to the surrogate mother only in lieu of a baby whom she made her life. On the whole, in Indian society, if a woman cannot give birth, she’s considered to be infertile and barren who can never keep her husband happy. Breaking the norms, Lavanya, a fictional character, had accepted her fate of being a single mother fighting all the odds in her life. Her husband, whom she considered a utopian man in her life, had left her when she needed him the most. But, the newborn became the apple of her eyes and the sole reason to live. The journey of a single mother never was easy in any part of the world, but when it comes to India, it becomes a pivotal role for a single mother to take care of her child, defying the prevailing belief of the society that a child needs a father too for a good life. Not every single mother wears a cape or can stand strong, but the ones who do become the idol and a symbol of strength and empowerment.

Hell broke loose on Lavanya with a newborn in her lap and being looted by her own life partner who chose to marry the surrogate mother for her beauty.

Lavanya had to bear many obstacles amidst the financial crisis which led her to venture on a new path of independence and break free from every belief that she needed a life partner to keep up with her journey.

The novella had been penned down based on a true event from Debanjali’s known sources. A small gesture to tell the world how a journey can be for an infertile woman in Indian society may be different from others but has one common thing, bear the societal pressure.

This has been her 3rd published novella at 25. She first tried her hand in penning down poems and tales from her world of imagination. The happenings and perceptions around her contributed to her writing. With Ukiyoto, she got her first break in 2019 and was featured along with few other writers in Zishya. Fortune favoured her with more writing opportunities since then. To date, she has authored and co-authored more than 18 books with Ukiyoto Publishing, mostly short stories.

Writing soothes her mind and gives her the freedom to express the joy and grief of others who feel left out or weak to speak in front of the world. Presently, Debanjali is working as a scriptwriter and a book writer. The parity of working in a corporate enthralls her to view life from a different perspective at times, and weave a different story of her surroundings.

A shayar and a poet, as she is known by her literary works, also creates motivational speeches and delivers them online, and succor others to defeat the negativities and battle the odds in their lives.

In 2019, The Embracing Mother earned her fame as it was nominated for Diorama International Film Festival, and touched the hearts of the infinite to learn the journey of a single Indian mother.

Hindi poems are her favorite besides English short stories as she feels connected to her country.

The credits of stepping up in her writing career she bestows upon her school friends and her teacher from Carmel whom she idolizes. Now she is on the way to her destiny of setting off as a scriptwriter for films. Who knew a tiny soul who had the dreams to rule the corporate world would find solace in writing and unearthing the potential to be glorified as a writer? A Bengali woman from Kolkata looks upon Rabindranath Tagore and Satyajit ray as her idols.

“Life is the way we visualize it, feel, and empathize. Never feel beyond or beneath anyone but stay true to ourselves can help us achieve the best things in life and help others grow with all the positivity.” – Debanjali Nag

The only belief she has is to keep putting in efforts at any age and never give heed to the negativities. On your road to success and achieving your dreams, there will be millions of obstacles. Staying calm and strong will materialize the dreams that many see but only a few achieve.

A wonderful journey she started with Ukiyoto has flourished, and she is on the verge of making her bigger dreams come true.
