Charlotte, North Carolina Jan 12, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - Special Dolls, a brand-new doll company, has released the Elliana doll, a doll with a prosthetic arm, and will release more dolls soon. The company was created by Sydney Satalino, a 13-year-old girl.

You wouldn't suspect that Sydney Satalino created her own doll company. The eighth-grader loves her own doll collection, watching her favorite Netflix show, writing and her puppy, Snickerdoodle. But she sure did create her own doll company- a revolutionary one, to be exact.

At nine years old, she realized her favorite doll company didn't have any dolls with disabilities. As a girl with Asperger's syndrome, she realized that this wasn't right and started sending letters and emails to the company. After reject after reject and a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, she realized that writing wouldn't work and started planning to make her own doll company, Special Dolls.

Sydney, who will turn 14 in January, has finally gotten her to wish come true. After two years of planning every detail with help from her dad, Joseph Satalino, Elliana, the first Special Doll, is finally available. The doll has long, wavy blond hair and big brown eyes, but she also has a pink prosthetic arm, like many other kids. But unlike most dolls with disabilities out there, Elliana has her own backstory, which is explained in her e-Book, "Elliana and the Big Race", which is written by Sydney. In her story, Elliana Ellington is an 11-year-old girl who loves coding, robotics, making stuff with her 3D printer and engineering. The story focuses on Elliana "believ[ing] in herself and turns her disadvantages into her advantages" as she participates in a robotics competition. Future dolls will include Katrina Miller, a type 1 diabetic aspiring filmmaker, and Jennifer Taylor, a gymnast with a prosthetic leg.

The Elliana doll costs $89 and is available on the company's website, special-dolls.com. On the website, you can also read Elliana's e-Book and find out more about her. To learn more, go to special-dolls.com or follow Special Dolls on Facebook or Instagram at @specialdollsbrand.
