Fort Worth, Texas Oct 25, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - Mzuri Moyo Aimbaye, Co-Founder of Healing Through the Sound of Music, Inc., (HTSM), a 501c3 non-profit institutional legacy social impact music and theatre performing arts company is excited to announce the performance of its multi-award-winning production of “The Fannie Lou Hamer Story, Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired” at the I.M. Terrell Performing Arts Complex Sunday, Nov. 3rd at 3:00 pm. The production comes by special request of the Grandmother of Juneteenth Dr. Opal Lee, who expressed her determination to bring Mrs. Aimbaye to Fort Worth before the election during the annual meeting of the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation (NJOF). Mrs. Dione Sims of Unity Unlimited, Inc. is co-producing this initiative to Get Out The Vote before election day by having this special command performance followed by a town hall panel discussion of candidates running for office.
HTSM’s critically acclaimed flagship production, “The Fannie Lou Hamer Story, Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired”, written and performed by Viv Award (Black Tony), multi-award-winning playwright, actress, and internationally acclaimed vocalist Mzuri Moyo Aimbaye captivates audiences across the country in her Voice of the Empowered (V.O.T.E.) tour. This moving portrayal weaves together inspiring music and provocative theater in storytelling paying homage to the legacy of Fannie Lou Hamer—a trailblazing civil rights activist and relentless champion of voting rights. We are also commemorating the 60th anniversary of Fannie Lou Hamer’s historic 1964 DNC Credentials Committee testimony of her brutal jailhouse beating just for registering to vote which exposed America’s Apartheid policies to the world and became a tipping point to the passage of the Voters’ Right Act of 1965.

About “The Fannie Lou Hamer Story”
This theatrical masterpiece takes audiences on an emotional journey through Fannie Lou Hamer’s remarkable life—from her humble beginnings as a sharecropper in Mississippi to her pivotal role in the fight for voting rights during the 1960s. Themes of resilience, courage, community empowerment, and intersectionality are vividly portrayed, leaving audiences transformed and inspired to vote. The play depicts the Black Americans' struggle for human dignity and freedom for fair representation in the voting process, promoting voting rights for all.
About Dr. Opal Lee
Ms. Opal is a recent Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and 2022 Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Affectionately known as the Grandmother of Juneteenth, she started a walking campaign for national Juneteenth holiday recognition in 2016 and was present at the signing of legislation by President Joe Biden that made Juneteenth the newest federal holiday. She is the oldest living board member of the NJOF that was founded and led by the late Dr. Ronald Myers, Sr. Ms. Opal believes that FREEDOM should be celebrated from the 19th of June to the 4th of July.
