Pittsburg, California Sep 11, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - Author Paula Paul enlightens readers about eugenics and sterilization in her compelling historical novel The Mind of a Deviant Woman. Paul wrote the book to shed light on the eugenics movement, a little-known dark chapter in American history.

Set in the 1920s, the story centers on Carrie Buck, a young woman chosen to be sterilized because she is labeled a deviant for having a child out of wedlock. She then crosses paths with Louisa Van Patten, a New York socialite and an advocate of eugenics—a movement geared to improve the human race through sterilization. Things get more complicated when journalist Ben Newman enters the scene.

An Amazon reviewer praises the book, saying, “Gut-wrenching and based on a true story, this short but enormously powerful work of women's fiction describes the tragedy of a poor working woman in 1920's Virginia who is cruelly imprisoned and mistreated by the state -- and the glamorous, wealthy society girl who almost shares her fate.”

Paula’s work will be exhibited at the Manila International Book Fair to be held at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Philippines, this coming Sept. 11-15, 2019 from 10am-8pm at the Authors Press booth no. 2-35.
