Asheville, North Carolina Mar 27, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Second-generation professional wrestler Evan Golden has taken the family business by storm in the Southeastern region, and in an interview with Nick Mays on the Wrestling Wing Podcast, Golden chats on following in his father's footsteps, the National Wrestling Alliance, his future aspirations, and a potential match with current NWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion Kerry Morton. This interview is represented by Vanguard Classics on YouTube.
Nick Mays: The first time I saw you was this past weekend in Tennessee. You came out looking like Ric Flair.
Evan Golden: There is no better compliment than that. It was great wrestling in Tennessee again. My father, Eddie Golden, and my uncle, Bunkhouse Buck, began the Golden wrestling family on Tennessee soil, so performing there is like the fullest circle thing ever. I love it.
Nick Mays: My generation had home video tapes and yours has YouTube. Do you watch footage of your father often?
Evan Golden: I study it constantly. I watch a lot of my dad’s matches from the 1990s because that is when he was in his prime at NWA Wildside, but I was not there to see it because I wasn't born yet. I am glad I have access to footage like that.
Nick Mays: What are some future aspirations for Evan Golden? Where do you see yourself in say, five years?
Evan Golden: When I first began this journey, my goals were sort of unrealistic. Now, I like to keep things very attainable. This year, I'd like to broaden my in-ring skills, do some more tag team wrestling, and constantly learn this craft match by match. In five years' time, I'd love to have more exposure, and have more matches available for a bigger audience to see.
Nick Mays: You shared the card with Kerry Morton this past Saturday in Bristol. You could have a match with him one day.
Evan Golden: Kerry Morton was a close friend of mine. We grew up together and we used to be inseparable. I feel like in this business you must earn the term 'legend', and I think the last thing you should do in your early career is calling yourself "The Future Legend". That is maniacally egotistical. I would love to prove Kerry Morton and his fans wrong on any mat. Everybody loves Kerry, and I appreciate that he has the guts to wrestle with a broken wrist, but I know The Golden Child has every bit of potential now to get a shot at any sort of Jr. Heavyweight Championship. I do not know if it will ever happen, but his new bad attitude ego needs to be left at the door during a match with me.
Nick Mays: Is the National Wrestling Alliance the place for this match?
Evan Golden: The Golden Child vs 'The Future Legend' is inevitable, it is just a matter of who would want to promote it. I love what the NWA is doing, and it is a coveted promotion that deserves a larger fanbase. All I know for certain is he would be tapping out in five minutes' time.
Nick Mays: What is your 'dream match'?
Evan Golden: My Dad is my hero and biggest inspiration, so I would love to share the ring with him. I feel like a singles match is ideal, but at the same time, he and I would make a great tag team. If I could tag with him against my other trainers, EZ Money and Jeff Connelly, I would be thrilled.
Nick Mays: Who is your favorite wrestler?
Evan Golden: Kenny Omega. Easily. Almost every move that I do is unapologetically inspired by him. That's another dream match of mine.
