Born in Hawaii, $oya$auce spent much of his early life moving back and forth between the islands and the mainland United States. After his parents’ separation, he returned to Hawaii with his mother and sister, where he began crafting music that mirrored his reality.
By sixth grade, he was already creating meme rap tracks over Tay-K type beats, playful but expressive beginnings that hinted at something deeper. During his freshman year in Virginia, he found inspiration in 2017’s emo wave, making songs from a shared one-bedroom apartment that gave his emotions a place to live.
After returning to Hawaii for his sophomore year, he joined Youth Challenge Academy, a six-month program that helped him find focus and resilience. Even there, he continued writing lyrics on paper, a creative spark that refused to die out.
When he graduated, $oya$auce stepped away from music to work and make ends meet. But life had other plans. Following a difficult breakup and a period of homelessness, he returned to music, this time with more conviction than ever before.
“After that, I never had writer’s block again,” he shares. “Music became therapy , the one thing that kept me grounded.”
Motivation
$oya$auce’s purpose goes far beyond personal success. He wants to change the perception of what it means to come from Hawaii.
“I wanna make it cool for kids in Hawaii to actually try something, make a song, shoot a video, do something creative,” he says. “Our island’s known for being boring, but I want people to say, ‘Hey, I wanna go there,’ or, ‘$oya$auce went to that school.’ Even if it’s not music, I want people to find what makes them come alive.”
The Name: $oya$auce
$oya$auce isn’t just a stage name, it’s a mindset.
“I make a lot of different stuff, but right now, I’m focused on vibes, songs that make people dance,” he explains. “Once I have their attention, I can bring in the deeper stuff. $oya$auce is like the coolest loser ever, I own that.”
Vision & Mission
In his own words, $oya$auce’s vision is to build recognition and respect, one listener at a time.
“I want people saying, ‘Who is this kid?’ and ‘Why is his music so good?’” he says. “I’ve got 20 different styles and I want my difference to start showing on social media. I’m not chasing trends, I’m building something that’ll last.”
