Bulacan, Philippines Mar 30, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Góc cà phê Việt Nam or Vietnamese Coffee Corner is Baliwag, Bulacan’s first and only café that offers authentic Vietnamese coffee celebrates its first anniversary this month. Amid the second wave of the pandemic in early 2021, its humble beginning started by offering the world’s famous Vietnamese Iced Coffee or càphê sữa đá. Today, Góc cà phê Việt Nam has a wide variety of Vietnamese coffee and street food favorites and also a growing base of customers coming from its neighboring cities as far as Malolos, Bocaue, and Sta. Maria.
The café is a locally owned family endeavor, supported by friends and the community. Its owners, a repatriated OFW from the Middle East in 2020 due to Covid19 and a Nurse, converted what has previously been a small “carenderia” catering to students across the corner lot it occupies. To keep running despite the regular changes in restrictions for the past year, the café’s daily operation is solely run by the couple and their nephews.
“As a small business, entering a city full of fast food and well-known local restaurants, it was a challenge, in the beginning, to introduce Vietnamese coffee culture, especially amid Covid19”, said one of the owners.
“We relied heavily on friends, their recommendations, and social media until our customers became organic. Most of them became regulars and come to the café every week, bringing in their friends and we love that they like our coffee and food, and the place itself as a whole.”
A garden café with the Philippines ' very own “Bahay Kubo” as a backdrop communicates the fusion of 2 cultures which is also reflected in their menu.
For its coffee, the best-sellers are the classic Vietnamese Iced Coffee (càphê sữa đá ), Iced Coffee with Coconut Milk (cà phê cốt dừa), and Hanoi’s famous Egg Coffee (cà phê trứng) both hot and iced.
In terms of the food selection, the café first launched Pan de Bánh mì, a fusion of Vietnamese’s favorite sandwiches using pan de sal stuffed with local favorites such as sisig, longganisa, and chicken bbq. They also have a variety of rice paper wrapper dishes such as chả giò (spring rolls), bánh xèo (crepes), and bánh tráng giòn (crispy rice papers). It also has phở gà (chicken noodle soup), phở xào (fried noodles), and bún gà nướng (noodles salad) for its rice noodles dishes.
Aside from dine-in, the café has also partnered with local delivery apps such as ordermoph and gobayong which became very popular during high community restrictions and even up to now where people can have their coffee and food delivered to their doorsteps.
The café has a positive rating in ordermo app and other social media sites where it is connected.
“The best Vietnamese food in this area so far!!!! Legit 100% and tastes exactly like the ones I had in Vietnam. They got affordable prices too which is good. Everything is a must-try here.” Said one of the customers from ordermoph.
While one of its Facebook followers posted, “Coffee lover? Don’t miss this place. And the calming ambience thumbs up .”
Góc cà phê Việt Nam is an example of a simple idea turned into reality through perseverance and dedication tested by the challenges this pandemic has brought upon all of us and we hope to see it grow and progress more in the years to come. This is such an inspiration to go out more and support local businesses near us.
