Singapore, Singapore Dec 14, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - India is making some epic adventures in the sports industry and with the gems like Gukesh Dommaraju who has become the youngest Classical Chess World Champion. He is only 18 years old and the teenager defeated Ding Liren on Thursday with 7.5-6.5 in their best-of-14 final. History is created in the Singapore match and it is a proud moment for all Indians. 18-year-old Gukesh showed some amazing skills which left defending champion Ding no chance. The game headed with rapid chess tiebreaks and Gukesh made sure to take the moment when he saw the blunder from Ding.
It was a very emotional moment for Gukesh when the victory was obvious and the young star broke into tears as he knew he had just become the young champion in the world of chess. It was tragic for Ding who was in disbelief of his blunder but showed good sportsmanship. Gukesh was escorted after the win and he spent a long time with his father. The return of the champion in the country is wildly celebrated as he has become the second world champion after Viswanathan Anand.
When Gukesh was asked about his feelings, the champion explained that he did not initially realize the mistake made by the Chinese opponent but when he did, “it was probably the best moment of my life.” He is also making a world record as Gukesh is four years younger than legendary Garry Kasparov the Russian champion who won the title back in 1985. Gukesh said, “My journey, it’s been since the time I started playing chess at six-and-a-half, seven. I’ve been dreaming about this moment for more than 10 years.” He further added, “I think the only way to explain it is I am living my dream”. Previously, R Praggnanandhaa and his sister made a streak of records in Chess. Indians could not be prouder than this.
