Burlington, Ontario Jul 11, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - The vestibular system plays a crucial role in maintaining balance and spatial orientation, contributing to overall well-being and quality of life. During a Vestibular Assessment, we will thoroughly gather detailed information about your symptoms. Our team will inquire about your health, medications, and lifestyle to better understand your condition.
To assess your balance, we will conduct a series of basic balance tests using different stances and conditions, including both eyes open and closed. In addition, we will utilize dynamic posturography via m-CTSIBs, a specialized technique that evaluates your postural stability by measuring body movements and the center of pressure shifts on a force plate or balance platform.
Using infrared goggles, we will examine the functionality of the inner sensors responsible for the balance. This will provide insights into the coordination between your eyes, body, and brain as they work together to maintain balance. This assessment, known as Video-nystagmography (VNG), involves observing your eye, head, and body movements.
For a more comprehensive investigation, we will perform additional tests such as the Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) and dynamic visual acuity testing (DVI). The vHIT assesses the function of your vestibular system by analyzing eye movements in response to rapid head movements. DVI evaluates your visual acuity while simulating dynamic movements, helping us understand how well your vision adapts during motion.
This comprehensive vestibular assessment enables us to identify signs of peripheral (inner ear) and/or central (parts of the brain) disorders. By obtaining a clear understanding of your condition, we can develop the most suitable course of action for you. This may include further medical investigations, as needed, and, most importantly, a tailored treatment plan to address your specific needs.
