New York City, New York Aug 3, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - HEIGHT Magazine Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Rae Ashe is set to release her first docu-series through her independent company, HM Studios. The popular fashion publication will produce educational content focused on the lives of successful African Americans, who started businesses after enslavement.
"This documentary shares have forgotten history and untold stories about the early successes of Black people who were forcibly stripped of their legacies by heinous acts after being enslaved. Some of the surviving family members give in-depth, insight regarding the unfair and unjust practices their ancestors faced while trying to create a better life within their own communities", said Ashe.
Each documentary is an hour long. Ashe continues to share the importance of recounting historical events for the current and future generations. "African Americans have contributed countless inventions to this country, which in some accounts have been rewritten or not mentioned at all. It's important to shed light on the loss of conversations and misplaced documentation".
Ashe says creating family-based content is extremely important. Especially now with hate crimes on the rise. Also adding that the relevance of this type of documentary is not like any other that has been created before.
"There's a path that still needs to be paved. I'm still learning so much about our history. So much cultivation and rich resources that's been left behind by Black people in this country. But, it's not properly acknowledged. Opening up the conversation while providing tangible evidence is key." Rae Ashe
The three-part series is set to air in 2023 on PBS. +
