Denver, Colorado Aug 29, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - HomeAid Colorado “Refreshes” Discovery Home for Denver Children’s Home
HomeAid Colorado proudly refreshed the interior of Discovery Home for Denver Children’s Home. Discovery Home offers transitional housing for older youth preparing to graduate from high school and leave the DCH. With support and supervision from a residential house parent up to eight young men form the household. During their time at Discovery Home, they move toward accepting responsibilities – including attending high school, finding employment, enrolling in college and ultimately becoming self-sufficient.
Discovery Home was the very first project HomeAid Colorado built in 2001 and required an updated kitchen. One wall of cabinets was redesigned providing a better workspace for the boys to prepare the weekly menu and grocery lists. With new flooring, countertops, backsplash, and appliances the kitchen now looks brand new. HomeAid didn’t want to stop there and replaced the carpet throughout the home as well. The boys’ have watched the progress of the remodel and their reaction to the project has been gratifying as they take pride in their home. “The children that live in Discovery Home appreciate the new look as they spend a great deal of time preparing the menu for the week, cooking and cleaning in the kitchen. They have enjoyed interacting with many of the contractors that donated their time, watching and learning about construction” said Lyndsey DiOrio, Sr. Program Director at Denver Children’s Home.
HomeAid Colorado offers special thanks to all that made this project possible – including KB Home, Saddleback Design, Enchanted Kitchens and Guy’s Flooring. For 20 years, HomeAid Colorado has been working to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach across Colorado. “As this year marks the 20th anniversary of HomeAid Colorado, it is only fitting that we refresh our very first project. Discovery Home has been home to many children over the past 18 years and we hope that it continues to be home to many more over the next 20 years”, said Cindy Bell, Executive Director of HomeAid Colorado.
