Los Angeles, California May 5, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - HUSHAN Autoparts Inc. demonstrates compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standards by earning first CAPA Certifed Products for automotive rearview cameras
HUSHAN Autoparts Inc. (Taiwan) is the first manufacturer to earn CAPA Certification for motor vehicle rearview cameras.
HUSHAN demonstrates that its products can be mounted appropriately and have been independently tested and evaluated to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 (FMVSS 111): Vehicle Rearview Image Field of View and Quality Measurement. The evaluation also includes field-of-view and response-time testing.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), all new cars will include rearview cameras by May 2018. Rearview cameras are designed to prevent potentially deadly back-over accidents. NHTSA estimates that as many as 69 lives can be saved each year once every vehicle under 10,000 pounds is equipped with a rear visibility system.
According to YC Chen, CEO of HUSHAN, the “CAPA Certification program helps identify high-quality rearview cameras meeting FMVSS requirements. When distributors, repair shops, and insurers see a camera with the CAPA Certified Part mark they can be assured that the camera meets essential requirements for mounting, the field of view, and response time.”
The Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA), an independent non-profit standard-setting and certification organization for automotive crash parts, has approved a new standard, CAPA Standard 702, for exterior cameras.
The standard, which currently applies to rear-view cameras, side- and front-view cameras, includes requirements for image quality, ingress protection, electric components, mechanics, performance, material identification, dimensions, appearance, function, construction, retaining features, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and vehicle test fit (VTF).
In May 2018, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) implemented requirements that all new cars sold in the U.S. come with rear-view cameras as standard equipment. Certification of aftermarket exterior cameras will help to ensure that vehicles equipped with aftermarket replacement exterior cameras are comparable to original car company service (CCS) parts, and do not take vehicle systems out of original compliance as certified by the OEM. To ensure this, CAPA 702 includes demonstrated compliance to applicable sections of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard no. 111 for rear visibility.
“CAPA’s comprehensive testing program provides the repair industry with reliable, trusted means in identifying quality replacement parts,” said Clark Plucinski, chairman of CAPA. “We are pleased to use our experience and expertise to provide the industry with a standard to help ensure the safety and quality of exterior cameras as their use continues to grow.”
