Paris, France Aug 31, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - A proud moment for every Indian Avani Lekhara broke all records with a Golden streak at the Paralympics 2024. The 22-year-old shooter showed an extraordinary feat at the Paralympics and her performance is considered to be one of the greatest para-shooting performances ever made. Avani has been paralyzed from the waist down since she was 11 years old due to a car accident. However, that could not stop her from achieving Gold in the event for the 10m air rifle (SH1) shooting competition which took place in Chateauroux. It is a historic day for India and Avani is currently one of the top para-athletes.
There is also Manish Narwal who helped India gain a silver medal on the second day of the event. He won in the men's 10m air pistol (SH1) final. Another remarkable wheelchair-bound athlete named Mona Agarwal helped to gain a bronze medal in the same event shooting. She is currently 37 years old. Preethi Pal also offered her personal best performance at the event for 100m. With such amazing performances by all the determined athletes, India is currently at no. 10 in overall ranking, ahead of Korea and Japan.
Avani broke her own record of 249.6 which she made at the Summer Olympics in 2021 in the Japanese capital of Tokyo. In the latest performance of 2024, her score for shooting was 249.7 which put her on the top spot again. Korea's Lee Yunri received the silver medal with a score of 246.8 and lastly, Mona won the bronze medal with a score of 228.7. This is perhaps the best year for India at the Paralympics with a double Podium finish. Avani is from Jaipur who has been have a lot of health issues before the event and lost a lot of weight, but never her courage. Right after her gallbladder surgery in March, she started training for the Paralympics which made her a Champion.
