Bengaluru, Karnataka May 25, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - The Music School Bangalore (TMSB), India's only RSL VQ Delivery and Assessment Centre, has formalised academic partnerships with four internationally recognised music universities — BIMM University in the United Kingdom, Germany and Ireland; the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney and Melbourne; Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California; and Singapore Raffles Music College in Singapore, completing a credit transfer network that allows Indian music students to progress directly from qualifications earned in Bangalore into the advanced stages of Bachelor's degree programs abroad.
The agreements, developed over a period spanning more than a decade, represent a significant development in Indian music higher education, one that industry observers say has no comparable precedent among music institutions in the country.
How the Pathways Work
Students who complete TMSB's Level 5 Associate Degree in Music, an OFQUAL-regulated qualification equivalent to the first two years of a British undergraduate degree, are eligible to enter the final year of Bachelor's programs at each of the four partner institutions without repeating prior coursework.
At BIMM University, which holds campuses across London, Brighton, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Dublin, Berlin, and Hamburg, eligible programs include degrees in Electronic Music Production, Popular Music Performance, Music Business, Event Management, and Music Marketing. BIMM, which holds full university status, counts among its alumni artists including George Ezra, James Bay, and Ella Mai.
At the Australian Institute of Music, TMSB's longest-standing partner, with a relationship spanning over ten years, Level 5 graduates are eligible for advanced entry into Bachelor of Music programs in Creative Technology Audio and Composition. The partnership was formally celebrated in February 2025 at an event attended by Michelle Wade, Australia's Commissioner of Trade and Education for South Asia.
At Musicians Institute in Hollywood, located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and founded in 1977, TMSB graduates are eligible for up to six quarters of credit toward the Bachelor of Music in Composition for Visual Media, a program oriented toward careers in film scoring and music for the entertainment industry. MI alumni include Anderson .Paak, Jeff Buckley, and Shruti Haasan.
At Singapore Raffles Music College, a 2+1 progression agreement signed in November 2024 gives TMSB's Level 5 graduates direct entry into the final year of the B Mus (Hons) Recording and Performance program. A delegation of TMSB students visited SRMC's Singapore campus in February 2025 for the college's inaugural Industry Forum, the first activation of the partnership at a student level.
Institutional Context
TMSB was founded in Bangalore in 2008 by Milton Lance, initially as The Drum School Bangalore before rebranding in 2013. The institution was recognised as India's only RSL VQ Delivery and Assessment Centre in 2019, granting it exclusive authority to deliver and assess Rockschool Vocational Qualifications regulated under the OFQUAL framework across India.
The institution's Pro Course pathway spans six qualification levels from Level 3 Certificate through to Level 5 Associate Degree, with specialisations in Music Production, Composition, Performance, Audio Engineering, and Music Business.
TMSB operates from a campus on Langford Road in Shanthinagar, Bangalore, with facilities including professional recording studios, a Digico S21 console, industry-standard DAWs, and The TMSB Stage, a professional live performance space inaugurated in August 2024.
Response from TMSB
Milton Lance, Founder and Director of The Music School Bangalore, said the completion of the four-institution network represented the culmination of a long-term strategic objective.
"The goal was always to ensure that a student who begins their music education in Bangalore has access to the same international opportunities as a student who begins it in London or Sydney. These agreements make it a formal academic reality rather than an aspiration. Indian musicians have always had the talent. The infrastructure to support that talent at an international level is now in place."
Significance for Indian Music Education
India produces more than 1,500 feature films annually across its regional industries and has one of the world's fastest-growing streaming markets, yet formal pathways connecting Indian music education institutions to internationally recognised degree programs have historically been limited.
The TMSB network addresses that gap directly. For students pursuing careers in music production, audio engineering, film scoring, performance, or the music business, the partnerships provide a structured and financially accessible route to internationally recognised qualifications at a fraction of the cost of beginning a full overseas degree from year one.
TMSB has confirmed that students from its current and previous cohorts have already begun exploring pathway options under the agreements with AIM and SRMC.
