Kailua, Hawaii Aug 3, 2022 (Issuewire.com)  - Island Sweetwater Beverage Co., Inc., announced today the launch of their newest innovation, NICOTIA™ Horsetail Tea, available now in select markets. Made with real brewed Horsetail herb, desalinated deep ocean water, and Hawaiian pure cane sugar. Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) is an herbal remedy that dates back to ancient Roman times. It was used traditionally to stop bleeding, heal ulcers and wounds, and treat tuberculosis and kidney problems. The name Equisetum is derived from the Latin roots equus, meaning "horse," and seta, meaning "bristle." Horsetail naturally contains nicotine, and should not be used if you are also using nicotine replacement patches or chewing gum.

Horsetail contains silicon, which helps strengthen the bone. For that reason, some Naturopathic Physicians recommend horsetail as a treatment for osteoporosis. It is also used as a diuretic, and as an ingredient in some stop-smoking remedies. However, few studies have investigated horsetail's effect on Smoking cessation. Horsetail has been suggested as a treatment for osteoporosis (thinning bone) because it contains silicon, a mineral needed for bone health. In one study, 122 Italian women took horsetail dry extract or Osteosil calcium 270 mg twice daily (a horsetail/calcium combination used in Italy for osteoporosis and fractures). Both groups who took horsetail experienced improved bone density. Female climacteric osteoporosis therapy with titrated horsetail (Equisetum arvense) extract plus calcium (osteosil calcium): a randomized double-blind study. Horsetail is a "living fossil", the only living genus of the entire subclass Equisetidae, which for over 100 million years dominated the earth. Chemical analysis revealed that silica is accumulated in horsetail in amounts of up to 25% (Timell 1964; Lewin and Reimann 1969).

“It’s long been known that horsetail tea can help suppress appetite and burn calories,” said Richard H. Davis, President, and CEO of Island Sweetwater Beverage Co., Inc. “Drinking the functional non-caloric version of NICOTIA Horsetail Tea sweetened with Monk fruit may help you eat less and bone up on silica naturally. Most scientific studies report that even a small amount of horsetail tea may just do the trick,” said Davis.
