Jacksonville, Florida Nov 14, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - The Jacksonville Athletic Academy (JAA) Moccasins (Mocs) won their first-ever Independent Junior College Athletic Association (IJCAA) National Championship, defeating the (9-1) Florida Community Christian Spartans (FCC) by a score of 22-18 on November 13th in Lakeland, Florida.
The game was played at Bryant Stadium, and it was a battle for the ages. The Spartans came out strong, but things soon changed when F.C.C.'s defense blocked an extra-point attempt. The Spartans capitalized on this mistake and scored to take an early lead of 10-6.
However, JAA did not let this get them down and fought back hard with a touchdown of their own when Quarterback Karon Johnson threw a touchdown pass to Wide-receiver Nathan Rembert into the end zone from 40-yards out to even to take the lead at 10-14. After half-time, FCC took the lead in the third quarter, scoring 18-14.
Both teams continued to fight hard as they traded blows in the third quarter until finally, Jacksonville's defense took over and shut down any attempt by FCC at scoring any more points, which resulted in them only being able to get down inside the 20-yard line once during those final two quarters combined! This allowed JAA's offense to score a late-game touchdown in the fourth quarter to take the lead and win.
The Jacksonville Athletic Academy Moccasins is an independent two-year junior college athletics program in Fleming Island, Florida. The Jacksonville Athletic Academy was established in 2020 by former NFL player Nolan Carroll II and his brother Necho Carroll. Nolan Carroll II, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, attended the University of Maryland, where he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins and later played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.
