Luxembourg, Luxembourg Jul 6, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Jan De Nul, an offshore installation firm is partnering up with power cable-making company Hellenic Cables. Hellenic Cables have gained their place after winning the contract from TenneT, and they are going to deliver 3 HVAC offshore grid connection cables. They are working on an offshore wind farm project, developing in zones N-3.7 and N-3.8 in Germany. With these cables, the wind farms will be connected to the DolWin Kappa converter station. The HVDC cables will transfer the produced energy to the shore from the converter station.
The delivery of the turnkey contract is expected to be done by 2026 and the contract demands 3 155 kV HVAC grid connection cables. Between zone N-3.7 and the DolWin kappa convertor a single cable with a length of 16.5 km. is installed. And from zone N-3.8 and other lands, there will be two more cables joining the converter station. The lengths of these two cables are also going to be approximately 10km each.
The designing and manufacturing of all the cables rested entirely on the Hellenic Cables. Once the cables are manufactured then Jan De Nul will get started on their performance which includes the transportation, laying, and protection works. The transportation and installation of the cables will be done by the cable-lying vessel Isaac Newton. This project is quite similar to the cable projects of Trianel Windpark Borkum II and Borkum Riffgrund II. And Jan De Nul and Hellenic Cables completed the project back in 2018.
