A native of San Antonio, Dr. Martinez’s roots in the community go back to 1715 when his family first settled there at a time when the region was a new undiscovered territory. His family has been instrumental in the development of South Texas throughout its early history.
After attending Texas A&M University for his undergraduate studies, Dr. Martinez received his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He then completed residency training in general surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and performed a vascular fellowship at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Memphis.
Serving eight years on active duty in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Martinez did tours aboard the USS TRENTON, and USS ENTERPRISE, and was the chief of vascular surgery at Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.
In 2001, he returned to San Antonio and has practiced in the community since that time, bringing new and unique technologies and techniques to San Antonio as the lead investigator for numerous clinical trials involving peripheral arterial disease.
With particular expertise in weighing the minimally invasive and traditional open procedure options, Dr. Martinez is board-certified in vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
In affiliation with multiple professional organizations, Dr. Martinez is an active member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the Outpatient Endovascular and Interventional Society, the Society of Vascular Ultrasound, the American Venous Forum, the Texas Surgical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the J.B. Aust Surgical Society, the Bexar County Medical Society, and the Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI) Global Society.
