Elgin, Illinois Nov 9, 2018 (Issuewire.com) - Judith Miller was recently appointed to lead Administer Justice as its executive director. In her new role, Judith will continue developing the services and impact of Administer Justice – as she has done for the past 11 years in her various positions at this growing Christian legal aid.
Judith was appointed an interim executive director in April. Following a merger with Founder Bruce Strom’s national legal aid organization, Gospel Justice Initiative, in September, she was appointed Executive Director.
Judith will lead to Administer Justice as it engages volunteer attorneys to provide brief advice and counsel, pro se coaching, and pro bono representation to individuals with civil legal issues who meet the federal poverty guidelines. In 2017, more than 200 volunteer attorneys gave their time and legal skills to provide legal counsel to nearly 2800 individuals.
As executive director of Administer Justice, Judith will work in tandem with Founder & CEO Bruce Strom to coordinate and integrate the structure of this successful legal aid with the expanded vision of Gospel Justice Initiative (GJI). Bruce founded GJI four years ago to establish new community based legal aid ministries across the United States. In this short time, GJI has started 78 legal aid ministries in sixteen states. Administer Justice will now serve as the strong home office example to these clinics. The leaders of these clinics will look to Administer Justice for mentorship as Administer Justice continues to explore better ways to serve neighbors in need.
Judith began her association with Administer Justice in 2007, while she was still a law student at Northern Illinois University College of Law. Licensed in 2008, Judith provided pro bono representation through Administer Justice while growing her solo law practice in family law and consumer bankruptcy. In 2010, she accepted the position of Tax Controversy Attorney for the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic operated through Administer Justice on a grant from the Internal Revenue Service. Two years later, she was invited to manage the entire legal program at Administer Justice as the Legal Services Director.
Now, as executive director of Administer Justice, Judith will work in tandem with founder Bruce Strom to coordinate and integrate the structure of this successful legal aid with the expanded vision of Bruce’s national non-profit called Gospel Justice Initiative (GJI). Throughout her legal career – indeed, dating back to law school – Judith has been an active member of the Kane County Bar Association. She participates in numerous committees and has chaired the Estate and Probate Collegium, the Access to Legal Service Committee, and is currently the chair of the Diversity Committee. She has written numerous articles for Bar Briefs, including some that have been reprinted by the Illinois State Bar Association section journals.
Prior to attending law school, Judith’s career focused on writing. As a journalist and editor for The Elburn Herald, she received numerous first-place writing awards from the Illinois Press Association. Her accolades continued as she decided to switch careers from journalism to law. She entered law school with as the winner of the General Assembly Scholarship from State Rep. Patricia Reid-Lindner. While in law school, she received the Outstanding Woman Law Student Award, The Illinois State Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award, the Women’s Bar Foundation award in recognition of leadership and significant achievement in the study of law, and the Edward F. Diedrich Award for outstanding service in public interest law. She was appointed to Law Review and served on its executive board, and participated in Moot Court as both a competitor and judge.
Besides her work at Administer Justice and membership in the KCBA, Judith’s time is committed to several community services. She currently serves as a commissioner for the Elburn Police Commission and participates in the Fox River Valley Initiative. To relax, she loves social dancing, (especially East Coast Swing), going to the theater and concerts with the St. Charles Singers, reading novels with her book club, and listening to live jazz.
