New York City, New York Jan 28, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Julia is a first-year medical student at Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Wichita, Kansas.
Originally from Russia, she is looking to help new immigrants and people from underserved populations, especially since she is coming from a foreign country herself.
Born in Pyatigorsk, Russia, Julia earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Pyatigorsk State University in 2011. That same year, she moved to the United States where she continued her education at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.
While earning her second bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, she was also serving the underserved communities of Orlando. During her undergraduate career at UCF, she was also volunteering as a research assistant at an infectious disease laboratory. There, she was working on the antimicrobial susceptibility of a common nosocomial pathogen, E. faecium.
Among her other volunteering experiences, is also serving the underserved communities at Shepherd’s Hope Clinic as, Human Anatomy teaching assistant, transfer orientation peer advisor at the University of Central Florida, general hospital volunteer, and Eastern European community liaison. Julia continues to express her passion for positively impacting others after moving to Kansas. She has been recently matched with a Little through Kansas Big Brother Big Sister and is exploring other community service opportunities in Wichita.
The first-year medical student personally knows about resilience and grit. As a first generation-immigrant whose first job in America was as a hotel housekeeper, she has been working hard to achieve her medical school acceptance. She believes her experiences gave her a better understanding of empathy and the emotions of others when they go through pain and struggles. As a future osteopathic physician, she strives to provide compassionate holistic care to her diverse patients.
Julia is a wife and a mother of two, most of all she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, traveling, hiking, painting, and photography. She is fluent in English and Russian.
