Chicago, Illinois Aug 10, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - In celebration of 35 years of service to the LGBTQ+ community, LAGBAC – Chicago’s LGBTQ+ Bar Association will host its 35th Anniversary Gala on Friday, September 23, 2022, at the Peninsula Hotel in downtown Chicago. Founded in 1987, LAGBAC is one of the oldest and longest-running bar associations in the country organized around LGBTQ+ issues. “Chicago has a vibrant LGBTQ+ community and a strong history of promoting LGBTQ+ rights,” said LAGBAC President, Moses Suarez, “and we will honor the LGBTQ+ community and this great history at our 35th Anniversary Gala.”
The event, which includes a cocktail reception, dinner, and silent auction, will bring together members of the legal profession, as well as local politicians, community members, and other supporters. “The Gala is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the important work of our organization that spans over three decades,” said Gala Co-Chair and LAGBAC Foundation President Nick Furtwengler, “and, thanks to our sponsors, donors, and attendees, it will also help raise the funds necessary to ensure the continued success of the LAGBAC Foundation and its scholarship programs.” All proceeds from the event will benefit the LAGBAC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization providing education to both the public and legal professionals about legal issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community. “We will also recognize this year’s recipients of the LAGBAC Foundation Scholarship,” added Mr. Furtwengler. In support of its charitable purpose, the LAGBAC Foundation awards scholarships annually to law students working at LGBTQ+ and civil rights organizations for a summer during their law school education.
“As we celebrate our past,” said Mr. Furtwengler, “we also look forward to the future and LAGBAC’s continuing service to the LGBTQ+ community.”
