LeVelle Moton Park Dedication & Statue Unveiling in Honor of NCCU Men’s Basketball Coach

Raleigh, North Carolina Apr 25, 2022 (Issuewire.com)  - The City of Raleigh, NC will be celebrating the renaming of LeVelle Moton Park and statue unveiling to honor local philanthropist and North Carolina Central Men’s Basketball Head Coach LeVelle Moton.  The dedication and unveiling will take place Saturday, April 30th, 12pm at 913 E. Lane Street, Raleigh, NC.

The newly installed sculpture was created by local artist Stephen Hayes.  Moton grew up spending most of his time at Lane Street Park, the “sanctuary” where he spent his childhood playing on the court. Focusing on basketball and his future led Moton to chase his dreams in Durham, where he became a college star then on to becoming the Men’s Basketball Coach at NC Central University.

Moton has worked to pay it forward, investing in affordable housing near his neighborhood, and running the Velle Cares Foundation, a philanthropic effort to educate and enrich organizations that work with young people and families.
