Chicago, Illinois Feb 7, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - Daycare teacher and author, Maryluz Guerrero Salas, expands a biblical legend to a younger audience in her debut children’s book, “God Made the Leviathan.” While working at a daycare center in Chicago, where she often read bible stories to the children she was taking care of, Salas’ started recreating the stories she knew by heart. It later on bloomed into a full-blown passion and inspired her to write her own children’s book. She was particularly drawn to the leviathan — a sea creature that made appearances in Holy Scripture.
The book follows the adventures of three friends – Zophar, Eliphaz, and Bildad – in uncovering the mysteries behind the uncanny occurrence witnessed by a fisherman named Job. Speculation of the strange creature, what it is and the possible danger it poses, fuels the village’s gossip engine. Some thought it was a crocodile or alligator. But Job insists that it wasn’t so if it was then he would have been able to kill it with his spear.
Leviathans are mythical beings found in the bible. They are described as having an enormous body with scaly skin and have a habit of devouring ships and sea-faring men. They are mentioned several times in the Old Testament but their origin remains to be unclear. Salas wanted to craft a story that would somehow resolve the question of the existence of leviathans. She remembers that when she was young, she had the same dilemma with dinosaurs. The Church argued that they never existed but science says they do. She’ll leave it to the readers which side to take after reading her book.
