San Francisco, California Apr 30, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - The San Francisco Board of Supervisors today announced that the Fire Marshal has approved the RACLAN Box as an active storage and charging container for lithium-ion batteries.
"Like many cities in America, San Francisco is fighting the rash of e-bike battery fires that threaten our safety. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is proud to be one of the national leaders in creating a safe environment for our e-bike retailers, repair shops, and rental operators,” said San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin.
Peskin continued, “In San Francisco, numerous fire incidents have been attributed to rechargeable batteries in recent years. In 2023, the San Francisco Fire Department responded to 41 such fires. Lithium-ion battery fires have increased dramatically in San Francisco, causing death, serious injuries, and millions of dollars in property damage. We wrote our pioneering lithium-ion safety legislation to allow our Fire Marshal to adapt to emerging fire safety technologies to ease compliance for e-bikes and other retailers."
"The approval of the RACLAN Box as a charging containment device can help merchants because it creates a separate fire area for charging without the need to build another room or install sprinklers,” said San Francisco Fire Marshal Ken Cofflin.
