“I really like concentrating on family and involving caretakers and those kinds of things in patient care,” Maddie explains. “That was a big motivational factor for doing interventions in ICU, having families being involved in care, and that is just so rewarding, especially coming from somewhere where I did more rural nursing. It’s great to get people involved because your community is also going to be with you, and it’s not just going to be us at the bedside. We want care to be throughout your stay and to be taken care of at home as well.”
Prior to joining interventional radiology, Maddie spent the majority of her nursing career within the University of New Mexico Health System, serving in the Trauma, Surgical, and Burn Intensive Care Unit at The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center as well as UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center. Working in these high-acuity environments strengthened her clinical judgment, sharpened her leadership abilities, and reinforced her commitment to evidence-based practice while caring for patients facing some of the most complex medical conditions.
Her educational journey reflects the same dedication to professional excellence that defines her clinical work. Maddie earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Central New Mexico Community College before completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at The University of New Mexico. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to expanding her knowledge and refining her skills to better serve patients and their families.
In addition to providing direct patient care, Maddie contributes to the advancement of nursing practice through involvement in clinical policy development, staff education, and training initiatives that promote operational efficiency and high-quality patient care. Looking toward the future, Maddie is currently completing prerequisites for a Doctor of Nursing Practice and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program.
