Philadelphia, Pennsylvania May 28, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - The Metro Digital Sports and Entertainment Group (Metro-Sports) today announces a new partnership with Microsoft Stores to create a unique Esports & Live-Music college tour produced for live-stream viewing, along with Pro Gamer & Professional Game Developer workshops, targeting underprivileged youth from 12-18 years of age.
The partnership features the 2019 Metro-Fest, a multi-city digital sports and music festival beginning in the fall, that will include live music performances, a technology product expo, and custom amateur video-game competition for prizes, that could include a full semester of paid tuition.
"We are entering a new era of live-stream entertainment, and Esports is leading the pack as the fastest growing sport in the world. As content and cultural experience creators, The Metro-Sports Group is incredibly excited to partner with Microsoft Store; to attract, engage, and influence a largely underserved multicultural community of gaming, music and technology enthusiasts. We plan to reach a massive digital audience as well, led by our distribution partnership with media guru, Keith Clinkscales' cultural sports platform, The Shadow League. (www.theshadowleague.com),” said Shaon Berry, CEO of Metro Sports.
Several studies over the last decade have shown that while minority communities make up most of the video-game consumers (54%), and a massive (42%) of video-game console purchases, there is little to no diversity among streamers, professional players, scholarship recipients, game developers, and business owners. In a study published last year by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA), over 68% of those surveyed who work in game development were Caucasian, followed by 18% Asian and 5% Hispanic. Only 1% of the 963 respondents were African American.
“Microsoft Store is the destination for all gamers regardless of background or ability,” said Bryan Schmit, Director of Gaming at Microsoft Store. “This partnership continues that commitment that all communities should have access to gaming and Esports opportunities that enable leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills to develop and empower our communities to flourish.”
Further details, including tour stops, competition details and dates will be announced soon.
