Michael Gallup at the Age of 28 Announces Retirement
Michael Gallup, the Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver astonishes everybody by announcing sudden retirement from the NFL at the early age of 28. He came into a contractual deal with the Raiders in the offseason after he played six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and the Raiders have put him on the retired/reserved list now. There has been no official announcement by Gallup about his retirement neither did he post anything on social media related to it, however, he reposted the wishes he got from his friends and former teammates.
According to The Fort Worth Star telegram’s Clarence Hill Jr, Gallup no longer had his heart in the game. Dallas opted for Gallup in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Colorado State and he began to earn more targets in the second season he played with Dallas. He took 60 catches on 113 targets for 1,107 yards and even had six touchdowns.
His following season in 2019 was also successful where he went on to take 59 catches in 105 targets and 843 yards. However, his season in 2021 could have been better because it was cut short as he suffered a torn ACL but managed to agree to a five-year, $62.5 million contract extension before the official beginning of next season which was in 2022. In his next season which was in 2022, he only got 74 targets and in the following season in 2023, he received 57 targets which was not expected from Gallup.
Dallas allowed Gallup to seek a trade this offseason but later on cut him, and then he signed a deal with the Raiders which would have added him to a group that included Davante Adams. However now after he has decided to retire he is set to begin a new chapter in his life.
Conclusion
Gallup’s announcement did come as a surprise to a lot of people including his teammates and fans. He has been an extraordinary player all through his career. This is certainly a heartbreaking ending to his successful career and it remains to be seen where he is going to go next in his life and what is going to do next.
